Japanese Course in Singapore

Overview

This is the perfect introductory course for adults who want to start learning and speaking Japanese from the start in a positive environment. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of Japanese. Our class size is limited to 10 students maximum, so you will have the time and space to practice your spoken Japanese with our professionally qualified and friendly teacher - Yui from Japan - who will encourage and guide you through the basic conversational phrases and the language structures that underlie communication: Japanese script, vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure.

Knowing the proper way to communicate in Japanese with Yui’s encouragement will give you the self-confidence to speak with a Japanese native speaker. In a nutshell, this course is ideal for anyone wishing to start learning Japanese in a small class with a warm environment where you will have the time and space to practice and perfect your basic Japanese.

This 40-hour course is divided into two 20-hour modules with each module developing a setting for using and improving your basic Japanese communication skills. By the end of the 40-hour course, you will have developed key Japanese language skills necessary to meet the requirements of Level A1 of the JF standard for Japanese Language Education 2010 (A1-C2)

Understand and use common expressions and basic phrases to meet your conversational needs in everyday situations

  • Introduce yourself and others
  • Ask and answer basic questions about personal details such as where you live, people you know and things you have
  • Can interact with Japanese native speakers in a simple way

The first module of 10 two-hour lessons focus on introducing you to the basics of the Japanese language for everyday use and the second module of 10 two-hour lessons focuses on using Japanese in a variety of social situations with an appreciation and awareness of the importance of Japanese culture in communication.

Teacher Profile

Hi! My name is Yui. I was born and raised in Japan. After completing a degree course at Aichi Prefectural University in British and American studies, I worked in Japan for a few years and came to Singapore in November 2017. Meeting new people from different backgrounds has encouraged me to study my own language, then I started to volunteer teaching Japanese. I have teaching experience as a tutor both in Japan and Singapore for more than four years. Now that I have completed all the requirements of Japanese Language Teacher Training Course and passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency (JLTC) Test in 2018, I am very excited to teach students in the classroom. I’m a cheerful and friendly person. The class will be enjoyable with a lot of interaction in a positive mood.

Teaching Methodology & Materials

Yui, your teacher, has selected two topic-based course books from the Marugoto series which is based on the JF standard for Japanese Language Education. This series uses authentic materials and motivating learner-centred activities for classroom learning as well as self-study. You will receive two course books: Katsudoo & Rikai which will be used together.

These two course books offer learning in both Japanese language and culture so you will see the similarities and differences between Japanese culture and your own culture. The Katsudoo coursebook is focused on providing you with practice activities for everyday social situations. You will do a lot of listening and speaking using this course book for practicing in everyday situations.

The Rikai coursebook is focused on improving your language awareness of Japanese script, vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure.
This balanced approach in using two course books will help you to improve your overall Japanese proficiency and give you more confidence in using Japanese.
